Many many many moons ago Who remembers when we used to sit in front of the square box ( im)patiently staring at this weird logo showing on the screen while bearing with this sad and kinda irritating to the ears tune every evening till the clock would strike six and ..
TV SHUROO HOGAYA! ka Nara lug
jata ..People would especially put Daryan on the floor to accommodate children and some adult ladies as well from the neighborhood who did not have this privilege than .Those were the good times when people had more empathy and care for others,the whole neighborhood was treated as one big extended family and ofcourse the care
was mutual .
Those were PTVs infant days.
Viewers were not demanding at all,
they enjoyed every bit shown on the screen ..koi shikayat nahi key “hai Kia bakwas programs hai .. iski acting achi nahi .. Maza nahi areha “ Yeh woh .. No nothing like that .
Jo dikhaya jata chup chap achey bacho ki trah daikh laitey woh bhi khushi khushi ..
Monday’s ko tv ki chuti huwa kerti
thi .. jee han for real..! Viewers didn’t like that they missed their new found entertainment.
Mangal Budh ko gosht ka naga aur Peer ko ..Tv ka naga.kaisi baat haina .
That was the life then,
Little did people know that this was just the begening , There would be a time in the near future where they will have hundreds of channels and thousands of Programs to choose from any day any time.. Just Imagine if they only knew all this then,they would have gone crazy with excitement right !☺️
Tariq Aziz has the feather in his cap to be the first announcer ever for the newly born channal ,along with Kanwal Neseer they both did an outstanding job at it, doing LIVE TV was not an easy task .. one lil mistake and you r done ..it could not be deleted or re shot.The style of these announcers, their body language , the way they sat ,had their hands put on top of each other other and that dheema dheema soft lehjha..was all very formal.
Ajkal key bachey don’t know that Ptv’s transmision from 1964 to 1976 was all Black& White ..Even when color transmision started It didn’t become so common over night ,very few had it then,In the 80s it was seen more as a essential commodity in the house.
Coming back to PTVs early days ,
Some of its top dramas in black and white that cross my mind are:-
LAKHON MEI TEEN, JHOK SAYAL
( Peer Saeen ana I tay mithey chol khana ai) GHORA GHANS KHATA HAI,
KHUDA KI BASTI, ALIF NOON TALEEM E BALGHAN,HAPPY EID MUBARAK , ( I think that was a long play )
SHEHZORI, QURBATAIN AUR FASLEY MIRZA GHALIB BUNDER ROAD PER, (another long play) KIRAN KAHANI ,ZAIR ZABAR PAISH, even UNCLE URFI was black and white.
Other prominant shows that my mind can rake off from my memory bank are:-KASUTI, GHAR TU BURA NA MAANEY,SHEESHAY KA GHAR NEELAM GHAR , ( yes it was there at that time too ☺️) ZIA MOIN UD DIN SHOW ,HARTAAN HAI DEEPAK, SUCH GUP,There were music programs that showed various famous artists
singing songs I think one of them was called SUNDAY KEY SUNDAY,
Later on For kids there was Farooq Qaisers Kalyan which was enjoyed by young and old simultaneously till its last show and Ofcourse s there was Sohail Rana Jee’s series of music programs,
KALION KI MALA , HUM HI HUM,SATH SURON KI DUNYA,
HUM SURAJ CHAND SITAREY ..
These programs were ardently viewed and cherished by us the kids of yester years.
One program that never changed its time and was always prompt at 9:00 pm was KHABAR NAMA..
The news anchors just like the announcers also had their typical
style of reading News for which I hear they were specialy trained.
PTV has the honor of showing some of the best English films of its times.
I have already done an whole article on all the hit English film series of yester years so I ain’t gonna go that side.
Who remembers when the jhalkian of

We still love to watch these old movies and old tv shows and dramas .. and that’s a fact ..sochney ki baat hai .. Akhir aisa kia hai un sub mei .. jo ab nahi hai..🙁.. I know .. puraney programs key sath juri huwe hamari bohat si purani yadain ..
