Right from his “Daikha Na Tha” song on television with the Turkish singer Nazi In 1975 The then 20 year old managed to win the hearts of the young of that era on the spot.
But as some of you might know the story of Alamgirs music journey in Pakistan did not start from there.
It was way before that,when he decided to come to Pakistan before even he could finish his college in Cadet college Tangail in Bangladesh,
Our Karachi in those days was like Mumbai of India .. being a great cosmopolitan city that it was People came with stars in their eyes in quest to Pursue their dreams here and Alamgir was no different either ..imagine that was the kind of reputation our City of lights had then, (I am not disheartened it will rise again I know.. sigh.)
Any ways,coming back to Alamgir he literary came with just few a taakas (Bangladeshi currency)in his pocket,a guitar in his hand (as his only prized possession) and ofcourse with lots hopes and dreams in his heart to make a big name in music here.
He settled in the PECHS area in those days and used to sit and sing at odd places almost like a street singer, he also used to amuse the customers at the famous CAFE D’KHAN resturant at Tariq road in those days singing what ever songs he knew then and in returned was promised free meals.. and mind you ..not money!
One day Khush Bakht Shujaat saw him there, She liked his voice and asked him to come to the studios ..
You can well imagine the excitement running through the adrenals of the young singer then but not for long, upon entering her studio room he learnt she had already booked some one else for her show FEROZAN ,
That hit him very bad but before He could turn back to singing for free meals again Lady Luck immediately fetched Sohail Rana to the rescue,He happened to be sitting in the next door studio room ,and heard the pling plangs notes on his guitar , he asked him if
he was interested in being the guitarist for his kids music program and any guess what was Alamgir’s response ? Ofcourse he jumped to the offer!
and that’s how he he entered the formal world of music on our small screen… after that there was no turning back .. he bagged an instant applaud in his DAIKHNA NA THA song which became an instant rage from the music programe SUNDAY KEY SUNDAY,
His dancing singing ability on the screen which was something different was embraced with open arms by the young .
After that came ALBELA RAHI which was a remake of a foreign song it also became an instant hit then.
lets just say ALAMGIR became the singing sensation or the first pop singer for the young then,he relates himself as a pupil of AHMED RUSHDI though.
Youth of that era used to find him sitting near “JHEEL PARK”in Karachi along with his red Sedan car and a guitar.. finding immense pleasure entertaining the young group around him, Music was his life support his passion his everything good and it showed.
The cassette shops in the 80s sold Alamgir’s albums like hot cakes !
That’s was his time to shine out ..
I remember I was in college then
Me and my friends just loved to hear all his songs infact we knew them all by heart.
Kon kon sey songs yad kerwaoon..
It’s a long list and missing on any one would be not fair ..☺️

As we know ALAMGIR also sang for some of our urdu films as well,which became quite popular phir bhi Pta nahi kion why he didn’t sang more for the films ..I am sure u remember ,

Alamgir has travelled around the world doing concerts and taking part in many shows.
Even after spending 45 plus years in the field of music he is still associated with his first passion music.
Though he has been very sick battling his Kidney problem for long now
He is Currently settled in Canada and is
still undergoing treatment I hear.
He came back to Pakistan in between in 2012 and did few shows on TV for his fans who grew up with him ..Yet he had to go back to continue his treatment.
let’s all pray for Alamgir’s complete and speedy recovery guys..
