Karachi 1980’s: The transition from donkey cart to Suzuki’s. Don Lee looks on helplessly as his dominance in the transport industry is fading away.  A scene from Jodia Bazar captured during a visit in October 1983.

Karachi 1983: M.A. Jinnah Road in the Dow Medical College area. Photo from the roof of the Basic Science Building. Ashura procession. Across from DMC are some historic shops like Mughal Tailors (owned by late dad of our member Mr. Jawed Mughal, Pioneer Book Store, Balsara Institute for teaching typing and shorthand, Bamboat and Co, (Artist supplies) and Modern Sanitary Supply on the corner of M.A. Jinnah Road and Mission Road

Lunch time for the hard working: Jodia Bazaar, Karachi in October 1983.

Karachi 1983: Interesection of Arambagh Road and Shahrah-e-Liaquat Road. The NED Shevakunj Hostel is visible. On the corner is the German Health Center with treatment of all kinds of reproductive disorders. (to keep the dialogue decent!)  Right above it is the Jamila Nighat Maternity and Nursing Home (in case the treatment is successful! ) Do not think there is a business partnership here, maybe just real estate synergy or co-incidence!  Around the corner is the famous Arambagh Masjid. There are many more “health clinics” in this neighborhood, none run by registered doctors! They are an alternative to the standard treatment of Civil Hospital doctors. (AHK)
